Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based treatment for PTSD that helps the brain process and integrate traumatic memories.
How EMDR Works
EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, or auditory tones) while the individual recalls traumatic memories. This process helps the brain reprocess the memory so it becomes less distressing. EMDR typically requires 6-12 sessions and doesn't require detailed verbal recounting of the trauma.
